bridal bliss: my recent work

01.27.2011 · Posted in Ohh + Ahh

I’m so excited and especially proud to share this recent photo shoot which I did for the the winter/spring 2011 issue of Metro Detroit Bride. My dessert shoot which I posted last week was also part of this issue. These shoots have such energy and beauty … which are a product of a great ensemble team, an inspiring location and our perseverance through frigid temps! I have to say as a former bridal editor who saw MANY a boring dress come through, this season’s crop of lacy, frilly, feminine, whimsical and romantic gowns is just what I would have ordered. Which is your favorite? Mine might be the Claire Pettibone (shot #7) or the final Oscar de la Renta. That bow is stunning, no?!

|| 5 || We’re just back from the Sundance Film Festival (it was AMAZING.) Now we’re thinking Venice. Coco + Kelly tackles the vintage Venetian with gusto.

Park City is brimming with all sorts of fantastic fun and I’m sorry to leave it tomorrow. But …. Back to real life sans celebrities (we’ve only seen one so far, boo) and magical ski villages with inviting hot cocoa. Today we’re off to see two documentaries and sample some more delectable treats!

I really wanted to find a quirky ski song for today’s musical Monday (seeing as we’re in Sundance!) but there is virtually nothing to work with. So … what’s next best? Vampire Weekend’s White Sky of course. Minimal and light but with an airiness of fun, it perfectly sums up Utah and the current festival vibe.

and we’re off

Happy weekend! BCL and I are off to Sundance to join our besties for some skiing and film-festival goodness. I’m on the look out for the stars … of course with our luck we won’t even recognize them in all their chic ski wear.

A while back I stumbled on this article promoting Butch Bakery in NYC. How perfect is this for Friday’s Fellow? With names like Home Run, Side Car and Big Papi it’s no wonder they’re such a sweet success. I mean what guy wouldn’t love a delicious, masculine cupcake from time-to-time? A camo or houndstooth morsel? I’ll take a dozen, signed, sealed and delivered to BCL for Valentine’s (when I’m away in freezing Scotland.)

I was browsing all sorts of floral images today for my ongoing Pinterest board
floral fancies” and off all the things I saw, these paper wreaths by DanaAndCarol are still haunting me! “Where can I put them?” I asked myself for the 10th time today. This led to am inevitable walk around our condo (where on a side note I noticed all kinds of issues like dust balls, chipped paint and a shelf I must re-style) and an eventual aha! moment. Proving effective, I discovered the perfect nook in one of our guest bathrooms. Now the questions is, which color do I go for?

!!! dutch door press winner !!!

01.20.2011 · Posted in Ohh + Ahh

Congratulations to Jana, who won this gorgeous Dutch Door Press “Birds and Blooms of the 50 States” print of Oregon with her original, winning answer. “My home state is Oregon. One of my favorite things is all the different ground cover. Soft, soft moss to sharp, mean lava rock. Dusty dirt to squishy deciduous.” I don’t know about you but I can picture myself on a pretty amazing hike up there in Oregon with all this ground cover. Wouldn’t that make for some gorgeous natural photography?

I also wanted to send a huge thanks to Mara and Anna of Dutch Door Press for sponsoring this giveaway. Check out the rest of their state prints here!

I announced last week that I’d be including a new feature on Sage & Style called 5 o’clock roundup. For those that didn’t see last week’s launch, every Wed at 5 o’clock on the dot (central time), I’ll share my favorites from the week’s most inspiring posts.

|| 4 || I think I know what I’ll be making at Sundance next week. What’s For Lunch, Honey’s “German lentil and sausage stew” is hearty enough for any skier!
|| 5 || My lunches wouldn’t be the same without Closet Visit’s amazing posts and interviews.

take a number

What can I say, I’m into numbers today. It started with these napkins and kept going and going until I envisioned myself making cookies with “Hi 5″ on them. I reeled myself in when I saw this cute kids print … how sweet framed on a wall of books, art and crafts? Sugarfresh has a ton of great things in her shop, definitely check it out. As for the cookies, maybe I’ll try those out next week?
