So I have some very exciting news to share!!!! The cover that I styled for Detroit Home’s Summer 2010 issue won FIRST PLACE for Magazine Cover Design at the Detroit Society of Professional Journalists Excellence in Journalism Awards. Amazing! Designed by Jessica Decker, styled be me, catered by Forte Belanger and photographed by Roy Ritchie, it’s always been one of my favorites. I mean who doesn’t love the mix of green and red, vintage and new, and all on a hand-made picnic blanket? PS: This fab blanket was provided by Jen of the Etsy Boutique, Sewn Natural. Check out more of her stuff here.

a short story

I’ve got a short thing going on right now {most likely as a result of being pregnant and having the inability to wear them in good conscience.} However, if there was ever a motivation to get back in shape post pregnancy, than these two beauties are it. What’s your favorite? Me, I can’t decide between the allure of fashion forward tweed by Zero + Maria Cornejo or the prettiness of pansies from Topshop. Maybe one of each?

Here’s a brief sampling of some of the things I’m coveting this summer. First off, this dress … can you imagine anything more dreamy? I also adore these Minor Obsessions bracelets by Finn. Available in a variety of juicy colors, you can layer them with other pieces or wrap them up as gifts!

I’m going to be honest here … these past few months I’ve been skeptical of the neon trend, remembering days long ago when my fluorescent green shorts mixed with yellow and pink gummy bracelets = tragic. However, as of today (when I accompanied my neighbor, The Beauty Girl, on an impromptu shopping trip) I became 100%, entirely sold on the hue. This may have had to do with a certain Furla wallet (1), or the sordid affair I’m having with my shoes (top shot), but it all became most clear when I laid eyes on this table and room. I think we have this piece in orange, which makes me super jealous.

blue skies

As a huge fan of Noah and the Whale I couldn’t resist shaping Musical Monday’s around their Blue Skies. There’s something to be said about these albums you can listen to time-and-time again. You know the ones; songs you never tire of, no matter how many times you hear them played. These odes don’t bring me back to a special place or hide a delicious memory, rather they simply aid in the day’s pursuits with their easy-going melodies.
Of course it goes without saying that I’m also a sucker for color inspiration and today’s blue theme—with it’s varying shades and patterns—is especially relevant as we FINALLY have blue skies to gaze at.
1. Melania wedge / Kate Spade. 2. Set of 4 patchwork hoops / MerriWeatherCouncil @ Etsy. 3. Brew Kid on the Block tea kit / Mod Cloth. 4. Ray Ban Wayfarer acetate sunglasses / Net-a-Porter. 5. Moto embroidered denim shorts / Topshop.

Many of you have asked about our nursery … a seasonal work in progress. I know you don’t really need a nursery right away {just a drawer I’m always told!} but when I imagine dealing with buying and decorating a nursery post baby, well let’s just say I’d rather cuddle. So after getting all our major pieces delivered (crib, changer, rocker) we’re coming in at about 70%, which is up 5% from last week.
That’s not too bad with 2+ weeks to go, right?
In the meantime, I thought I’d share some of the cute prints I’ve been buying off Etsy. My favorite is this “Let’s Hug it Out” from Laura Berger. Perhaps a lesson we should all learn, no?

It all started with this retro glider. Picturing myself and our new baby sitting outside on the balcony—he tucked into his new mamaroo, me sipping fresh lemonade in a moment of peace—I was instantly hooked on re-decorating. I dreamed of green and yellow; of flowers in planters and summertime smells mixed together with a dollop of sun.
Well, reality does have an ugly way of creeping in and I can’t help but wonder when I’m going to make this happen. In the next two weeks before he’s born? Hmm … I think not. So where does that leave me? Well, how about I start with this planter and then go from there. Baby steps, literally, but movement.
